Smokers' Rights Activists were all bankrolled by Big Tobacco. Groups like the 'National Smoker's Alliance (NSA)', formed in 1993, one of the earliest examples of "astroturfing". Much of the wording and arguments against public health policy are the same.

Tobacco companies are the 'Scotland invented...' of horribly political/legal lobbying trends. =/

Still remember tobacco companies in Aus using delaying tactics until people died so their cases were struck out and that was in the advice of their lawyers.
