Been thinking about that brief discourse over the term JRPG, and it made me wonder if folks in Japan know we use a different word for their cartoons.

Japanimation

They borrow a LOT of our words and we only borrow a couple of theirs. It must be such a fun little surprise for a Japanese person to hear an anglophone say a Japanese word.

In my heart I know "anime" over there is the umbrella term but I really wish they had their own word for American cartoons

It's interesting. I knew a Japanese Gumball fan once and he referred to it as 'western anime'.
