McKinley's tariffs led in part to the Panic of 1893 (so much for Trump's assertion that this was an economic golden age). But the Panic may have led to McKinley's death 8 years later when he was murdered by Leon Czolgosz, who had lost his job and turned to anarchism in the Panic of 1893.
