The great "they" keep talking about overhauling it, but it never seems to eventuate. One can but dream!
Basically if your book (whether it be audio/digital or physical) is borrowed you get paid from a pool of money. You don't need to have a certain amount of books in libraries like we do. This explains it SO much better: dcmslibraries.blog.gov.uk/2020/03/12/p...

I dream of that PLR payment. If NZ took on the UK model a whole bunch of us would be a little bit better off.
(I don't stalk it, but every now and then I search the area to find a home I could see myself in because I really miss that area and hope to end up back there.)
It used to be a police house, which is why we lived in it. I'm guessing it was sold at some point to the public.
I can honestly say that for a good chunk of those years I was the happiest I've ever been.
