Thank you for the mention! What a fascinating poem at such a critical juncture of both the development and public awareness of geology.
What excellent news, NREL is lucky to have you! Congratulations!!
I’ve not see them cited in these contexts either. I think I just felt the resonance between parts of their critique and the ‘extractive reading’ critique (as you note).
It’s a really interesting text, and one that I think asks good questions about all knowledge-making efforts on Indigenous lands www.dukeupress.edu/pollution-is...
It certainly seems that the metaphor is a bit much. That said, it feels like there is some relationship to Liboiron’s _ Pollution Is Colonialism_ (2021). They argue for anti-colonial science which sees itself as part of a community/place rather than apart, e.g. sustainable vs. extractive.
I did have a good conference! Hopefully you did too? I started with Malm’s chapter on anti-steam poems and then used that to identify other writers/collections. I think Malm even cites one of Jones’ anti-steam poems, but I can’t remember.
This might not be exactly what you're looking for, but "Fighting in a World on Fire" was what came to mind first: www.versobooks.com/products/304...
I think it says a great deal about *both* generative AI and modern education that students are the main users of ChatGPT.
Perfect!
