I won’t join a campaign to make Australia a republic because I don’t believe we require a head of state. The position of head of state is a nonsense. What does a head of state do? If Charles or our Governor General disappeared tomorrow, what would change?

Interesting, I’d never thought of it this way and I agree with you from a theoretical standpoint. After reading replies appears a number of challenges practically and for many to wrap their minds around. I much prefer your idea, but will still advocate for a republic as 1st step/baby steps process

Without a head of state who would swear in new senators and MPs? Swear in? Swear an oath? What is that bullshit anyway? Just don’t do the swearing in show, make them read and sign a job description.

The role is mandated in the Constitution. A whole chapter is devoted to the role. The Constitution is foundation law which legitimises all other laws. Just have to rewrite the Constitution and get it approved through a referendum. Good luck
