To hit from another angle? There's the online thing about "believing you're the main character", where everything either does or should revolve around that person. That's Trump. That's his personality. And because of that everyone else who isn't him is less than he is.
I think it's less complicated than that. He has to believe he's the best, brightest, and most qualified and that if he doesn't win... it's rigged against him. The track record is there for a long time. Maybe he's racist, sexist, and ableist. But if/when he is? It's more about HIM than others.

Always ask: "Who's answering the polls?" Remember how many times you (or a friend) would get a call from a pollster and then just hang up. "Who was that?" "Junk call." It's a bit more useful to understanding things than wondering if the polls are 'fixed'. (They are, just not DIRECTLY.)
I did that last one, many times. It is not a viable choice *unless* you were comfortably making close to six figures a year. $20k/year is not really enough to just... consistently change locations.
