Just did a quick search and it looks like I'll be getting them to at least 20 points for a song in a few weeks.
Despite not living in Rhode Island for over 20 years the falafel place on Thayer Street *still* knows my order when I walk in.
#UNCOOLTWO50 - Day 16! 35. Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam - Head to Toe (1987) Like a Latin freestyle Diana Ross & The Supremes, this is pure pop bliss.
#UNCOOLTWO50 - Day 15! 36. 2Pac ft. Dr. Dre - California Love (1996) The mid 90s was kind of a dire period for US pop music (guitar music, especially, was at a low point) before the Spice Girls and Timbaland swooped in to set things right but some amazing songs still broke through. Like this!
The dude sitting a couple seats away from me remarked that he had never seen Billy Bragg live before and then left the show about 1/3 in. I wonder if it was him. I have to say, any fascists at the BB show last night would have been suitably chastened.
Saw him play this last night. Still packs a wallop.
#UNCOOLTWO50 - Day 14! 37. Modern English - I Melt With You (1982) Keyboards, call and response vocals and over-the-top romanticism all come together perfectly in Modern English's finest 3 minutes and change. Who among us hasn't been willing to stop the world and melt with someone?
#UNCOOLTWO50 - Day 13! 38. Lauryn Hill - Doo Wop (That Thing) (1998) In the late 90s the cast of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" did a countdown of their favorite music videos on MTV and this was Sarah Michelle Gellar's pick for #1. I don't have it as high up on my list as SMG but it's still great.
First ABBA song I ever heard and also made my list.
#UNCOOLTWO50 - Day 12! 39. Talking Heads - This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) (1983) Time has been very kind to this tune - some Talking Heads songs can seem brittle and distancing in hindsight but this one exudes warmth. A love song for the ages.
