We covered the illustrious topic of borbs, so now it's time for another favorite genre of mine: Birds staring directly into the camera #birds

A male blackbird screams at the camera. Its head is slightly tilted to our left, and its beak is wide open as it loudly announces its displeasure at the intrusion into its territory.
The blackbird is entirely black, with the exception of its yellow beak and skin surrounding its eyes.
A european robin stares down the camera with a rather astonished look.
Its face and throat are orange, its belly is white and the feathers covering its wings and back are grey-ish brown.
A long-tailed tit displays the ultimate combination of bird's best traits: Borbness and goofiness. Its feathers are all puffed up, particularly towards its belly, giving the impression that the bird wears flared pants.
The long-tailed tit is mostly white, with some black markings on top of its head. Its upper eyelids are yellow. It has a very short black bill.
A great egret goes for maximum goof. Its neck is so long it eventually leaves the frame in the bottom right corner.
The egret is all white, with a yellow bill and green-ish parts around its yellow eyes.

Mother grebe drops off a fish before going on the hunt for more. Juvenile great crested grebes are frequently carried on the back of a parent - even when diving for food. At around 10-11 weeks old they begin to hunt on their own. #birds

Photo of two relatively large birds on the water. They are mostly brown, and their long necks and faces are white with brown or orange decorations in the collar area. Both adults have dark brown crests on their heads. Looking closely, the head of a juvenile can be seen between the two adults, accepting a small fish from the adult on the right. The juvenile's feathers have a black and white pattern.

I promised jumping spiders so here we go! I came across this young male E. arcuata in the forest back in August. That inquisitive glance upwards gets me every time! #ento#invertebrates

Macro photo of a small jumping spider on a blade of grass. It has raised its head to look up, and white reflections of the camera's flash diffusor can be seen in its 3 visible forward-facing eyes. The spider is darkly colored, with a black body, brownish legs and some white and yellow hairs on its face. The background is blown out and a few brighter blobs of yellowish green can be seen where sunlight illuminates leaves.

Alright #birds@glendunlap.bsky.social… show us two or more species in a single shot! Kicking off w/ the holy trinity of Pacific Northwest backyards: a house finch, an Anna’s hummingbird, and an American crow🪶

Branches with three birds perched on them: a crow, a finch, and a hummingbird

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! I'm already in love with this place. So much positivity and friendliness. I noticed a critical issue though: The lack of #isoposts#invertebrates#ento

Macro photo of a common woodlouse facing the camera. Its segmented body is mostly a brownish grey which turns brighter towards the edges of the segments. Bright, yellowish patches are scattered throughout its armor. The woodlouse has black compound eyes and segmented antennae.
And yes, that's probably a piece of poop on top of it, just out of focus.
