Interesting. There's also the way lions have been associated with royalty and nobility; Richard the Lionheart, etc. We've romanticized them while wolves are often used to represent someone sneaky and underhanded.

I don't remember the source now, but in my initial forays I found some stuff talking about how wolves were often demonized after sheep were introduced to a given culture. And I know in English language materials a lot of it comes after wolves are mostly exterminated in the British Isles.
