Purchase a base you like (they are usually cheap) and draw the details you want such as ear shape, fur patterns and stuff like that! And with that in hand, save a bit and then purchase a commission! That should definitely give you a good start!
You can always try to create a furry OC you like and see how it feels to identify to it! Ease your way in it in some fashion! Or if it's not quite working out, nothing is lost and you have a cool character design to use or sell!
So many people came out (or became more comfy) as furry or furry adjacent in the past 2-3 months and it makes me so happy to see everyone just exploring and enjoying this aspect of their creativity!!
