Q3: What are your tips for becoming an active member of a KidLit community? alt: What are things to avoid doing in the KidLit community? #KidLitArt
Q3: Keep showing up. Sometimes groups fizzle and it's not anything you did, just try again with another group at another time. Also, support each other! We're all potential future collaborators. The more of us who succeed, the more we can help each other. It's not a competition! #KidLitArt
Making connections and liking and sharing. Avoid getting into other people's drama.
A3: Keeping talking with your peers and supporting each other. Celebrate when fellow creators have good news. Learn how to give and receive critiques in a positive way. Always cheer each other on! Alt: Avoid badmouthing KidLit industry people publicly. Don’t take things too personally. #kidlitart
#kidlitart Finish artwork. Show up to stuff.
Q3: I’d say be kind and do not try to take others down. Offer critique only if asked. You can give constructive criticism without being mean. You can spend a couple of extra minutes wording things in a considerate way, which doesn’t mean sugar-coating, but just being respectful. #kidlitart
Do listen to other people talking and learn from each other. Don’t sell yourself short, especially in front of agents, art directors, etc. Do remember the #kidlitart hashtag
Q3: Show up! As often as you can! Online or offline, people will remember you more if you show up more. Alt: Don't badmouth folks or their work. Don't randomly critique portfolios, esp. if the person didn't ask for it! #kidlitart
alt: The KidLit world is very small, so be careful what you say! You will complain about a book cover & realize they are friends with the art director. (Flip side - make sure to ask around in your private groups about agents/publishers, because people don’t share the bad stuff publicly) #KidLitArt
Keep interacting! Hang around long enough and you will start getting to know people. #KidLitArt
