I was genuinely fascinated by the difference between Koyomi's (completely bonkers) narration and how reserved he actually is when Tsubasa or Suruga are narrating. Sort of twisted my view towards his narration being a guy doing bits about intrusive thoughts that make him uncomfortable.
One of the things I liked most was the distinctive narrative voices. I always came away with a new appreciation for how the characters viewed themselves, and the different perspectives they have on one another.
Finished the licensed monogats novels. I found them pretty wildly uneven (the writing can be *irritatingly* self-indulgent, especially when Koyomi is at the wheel), but jeez, when it really digs down into the characters and their relationships it's astonishingly good.
this hits like a ton of bricks as you realize koyomi's narration is dancing around the reveal (rot13) gung gur ragver nep unf eribyirq nebhaq gur yvatrevat erterg bs arire univat tbggra gb jrne n tveyf' havsbez gb fpubby

it's still early in the run, but so far "the role of the femme fatale" strikes me as the product of mai watayuri taking a break from class s novels to read foucault
