I feel mid-career because I was pushing 38 when I landed TT job. I am full professor now, but still have about 15 yrs before retirement (so halfway through).
We are planning to do same.

I don’t think it’s unpopular at all. I do wonder who is complaining though because wanting to keep stipends low so that you can have several students on your DG only perpetuates an exploitative system.
The funding landscape for environmental research in Canada is pretty limited, but for basic research-which is absolutely essential to any research ecosystem-tricouncil funding is the only game in town. Colleagues that do this vital fundamental research need to be supported and advocated for.
