In the TV series Ripley, a man glances at this picture for about 3 seconds maybe less. I simply could not carry on watching. I took a photo of the tv screen and then hunted it down. Wasn’t easy. Found it, bought a print, framed it expensively. Found peace.

Who is the artist?

Art historian Gergely Barki did the same when he saw this painting in the background of the film Stuart Little and instantly recognised it as Sleeping Lady with Black Vase by Róbert Berény... a lost Hungarian masterpiece that the film's set designer had randomly bought from a thrift shop.

Went to a gallery in Tendy...saw a great painting of pigs in a barn and it said "buy me"..( my only judge to buy art). Didn't have the cash so went back a few months later....only to find that the artist had done a Lowery and cut it up into a couple of pieces. Then my reaction included swearing..

That is a wonderful painting Kit. Good call.

Had a moment of awe with The Night Watch in the Rijksmuseum in around 2000. I gasped.

For me it was probably this one by Rogier Van Der Weyden in the Prado I wandered into the side room it is in and was instantly struck by it, the physicality, the grief on Mary's face ,you get a sense of a real death . And yes I have a print
