Usually it seems to be "do unto others what you falsely claim they've either already done or are planning to do to you."

Catching House (1977) at The Palm/SLO Film Center. Love how they decorated their door for it. 😂

Two red doors topped by a giant evil fanged cartoon smile and two glowing green cat eyes, theming the Palm Theatre for House (1977)

Oh, absolutely, you can use VFX to do either the literally or practically impossible. Period pieces have a lot more freedom to go outdoors in non-frontier settings which makes them feel so much less claustrophobic, for example. But it's also become a hammer sometimes used when a screwdriver would do

It's crazy because looking at the budgets for modern films and the armies of VFX artists it takes to make them it doesn't seem to save money vs doing things the old way, but it probably does make it easier and more predictable to manage without so many physical limitations to plan/work around.

One thing to remember, however, is how bad release prints often used to look, especially if you were seeing them after opening weekend. I have a lot of nostalgia for watching revival screenings of classics on beat up old prints, but seeing them now on the equivalent of pristine showprints is wild.

It's amazing how awful so many movies looked on VHS and yet how fantastic it was at the time just to have access to them at all.

I don't always recommend taking relationship advice from M.C. Double Def D.P., but when he's right he's right.

Speaking of, has there been any more news on that new MegaZone 23 project since the pandemic?

Honestly about what I'd expect from a director/creator trying to create a sequel to an insane/hot mess early bubble-era OVA a decade later because outside money wanted it.

B.M. Geist, on the other hand, is 💩
