It's so weird how doing a job for money is fine unless you're a creative. Like, do people attack accountants because they aren't pursing Abstract Mathematics instead? Are plumbers bad and lazy because they install sinks instead of creating water sculptures or something?
It’s how people justify paying teachers badly too. We’re supposed to do it for the love of the kids not to feed our own.
We need more abstract mathematics. And not enough physicists are looking into quintessence. I expect that’s the temptation of the evil ha’penny. Or AI. Or AI’penny.
I get “you’re only doing this for the money” from therapy clients sometimes, and I’m like, “it’s … my job? So, technically, yes.” And also I’m a community mental health counselor, so it’s not like I picked this gig for the cash and prizes. Anyway, please keep doing your job so I can give you money 🙂
I mean, what the OP is saying is, in essence, "I am consigned to obscurity by my childish refusal to understand that compromise is necessary." Very strong "freeloader boyfriend talking about the evils of capitalism while his girlfriend works two jobs to make ends meet" energy.
People certainly argue that educators who advocate for a living wage are being selfish and not putting the students first
Our current society likes art but hates artists.
I think there is something inwardly repulsive about doing art for money 🤔 thus the criticism provokes reaction. the money for money ppl don’t give a f@ck 🤷♀️ otherwise, I personally think people should question the nature of art. making art for money and remaining an artist is an art of its own.
“Teaching is a calling! You shouldn’t be motivated by your paycheck!” As though one can live on a calling instead of calories that need to be purchased at a grocery store with actual money.
If you need money, in a world governed by the need for money, and you can make that money by writing*, then do so! *not applicable if you're writing eg "Give me all the cash in the vault or I blow this place sky high", which is Bad**. **although probably better paid
In fact it is the opposite for those groups. Sigh.
