"Good can imagine Evil; but Evil cannot imagine Good." It's a line by W.H. Auden that seems highly relevant these days.

Trump cannot imagine anyone - especially soldiers and marines - acting selflessly in the interests of their country. For Trump, everyone is a scammer, a crook, a liar, a grifter just like he is.

That's letting evil off the hook. Evil lies and knows it lies therefore understands that it's evil therefore understands its the opposite of good

Not sure I agree with Auden. Much of Trump’s ability to avoid consequences flows from the unwillingness of “good” politicians and government officials to grapple with his depravity.
