If the timing is right for you to get to it, Sapporo's snow and ice festival is great - some of the snow sculptures are the size of buildings.
I've worked with a lot of systems that generate the list of people to be notified of something at a certain point in time (like COB), but don't actually send the reminders until a later point in time (like 9AM the next business day), and don't bother checking if anything has changed in the meantime.
All of the AnimEigo Kickstarter patches have been so good. I keep being tempted to put all of mine on a denim or bomber jacket if I could find one for a sane price.

I got to do a waffle-making workshop in Bruges that was a lot of fun. The city itself is beautiful, and a short train ride from Brussels, so it's an easy day trip.
