Unless a party gets over 50% of the vote, it needs to form a coalition with other parties. And no party is willing to govern with the AfD. How long that consensus among the other parties will hold is another question, but I don‘t expect it to break this year.

The AfD is a fascist party & the results are extremely concerning. That said - to say that they are „slated to now take power“ is to misunderstand the German political system.
