Walthamstow's first moving picture show took place at Victoria Hall, Hoe Street #OTD 10 Jun 1896. It was presented by E G Turner (1872-1962), one of the first film exhibitors, and a Walthamstow resident by 1911. Turner developed the Cinematophone in 1907, an early system synchronising sound & image.
Remembering Rev George Parry (1915-1944), curate at Leytonstone, St John 1938-1940. Later Padre with 7th Parachute Battalion, he parachuted into Normandy during D-Day operations. He died whilst unarmed & defending wounded men from enemy attack on a Regimental Aid Post at Benouville #OTD 6 Jun 1944.

Walthamstow public hall, built in Orford Rd 1866 & later altered to become Walthamstow Town Hall 1876-1941. It was part of Connaught Hospital from 1959 until hospital closure 1977. Restored in 1994, it is now converted for residential use #LocalHistoryMonthis.gd/WNjBXR
Sir Thomas Fowell Buxton (1837-1915) & Edward North Buxton (1840-1924), brothers who campaigned to save Epping Forest for public use. They are commemorated by a plaque at Leytonstone House, the Buxton family home until 1867. #BrothersDayis.gd/RjJCAa
Edmund Chishull was buried at Walthamstow St Mary's #OTD 23 May 1733. Vicar of Walthamstow from 1708 & chaplain to Queen Anne from 1711, he was previously chaplain with the Levant Company, Smyrna. His travels informed his works on ancient history & 'Travels in Turkey...' published posthumously 1747.
