Seeking Advice: I have tons of younger minorities (late elementary on) reach out to me to ask for mentoring advice on how to navigate and enter the field of wildlife. I’d like to maybe write an instructional book of some sort? Idk. What format or approach would you take with this?
How about a zine / chapbook format? Highlights, key points, even illustrations with artist collaborators. Something people could print out and bind themselves at home, or sneak into a back pocket!
It’s not that I wouldn’t want to personally mentor them, it’s just that my time is limited right now. I’m looking into getting a mentoring program started, but those things take time, especially while I wait for other already established programs who may want to partner on this.
Ask @danirabaiotti.bsky.social to cross post this to the science feed - that might be a better way to get ideas.
My spouse isn't on Bluesky, but this is basically his job! He's the liaison for a program helping marginalized elementary students interested in wildlife and environmental science. He thinks a book would be amazing (in addition to more programs, of course).
