Thank you! Just one more year

I want to do right by them and create a better world for others, so they don’t have to feel the level of pain my friend must have felt. I will never forget them and I will continue to try and do right by folks and help where I can, as much as I can.

I missed the funeral because I was flying back across the world from deployment. I was the last provider there so didn’t have anyone I felt comfortable talking to about it nearby. I couldn’t even talk much about this person because they were stealth in their transness and I didn’t want to out them.

This incredible person was already accomplished and was set to do so much more. They seemed settled in their skin and personal life. They had a support network and good friends. I had just spoke to them virtually a few days prior and did not pick up on anything.

CW: grief, suicide, transphobia Yesterday was Transgender Day of Remembrance and this was the first year I lost someone close to me to suicide. It happened in my last weeks on deployment and it wrecked me. Then on Twitter I was facing more harassment just for being openly trans and supportive.

Ah, Veteran’s Day. Just two years until I can I get to claim that title. 1.5 years left of active duty.

It’s wild to think that in just over a year I’ll be finding out where I’m going to Peds Endo fellowship. Long time coming, but we’re almost there!
