Reading @carrierickey.bsky.social#til I learned that Varda was big bros with Jim Morrison! The Lizard King attended Vardaās 10-year-old daughterās birthday party (he passed out drunk at the table), and Varda was one of the first on the scene when his body was found in Paris.
Years ago, a friend of mine upset by the Iraq War and the Islamophobia surrounding it started the ŁŁŁ Project. If Americans learned just one word of ArabicāŁŁŁ , which means āunderstandingā and is pronounced āfahāmāāit might spark a moment of curiosity and empathy. It comes to mind these days.
Also, as someone else alluded, the fact that decades ago we Americans decided en masse that we canāt abide taxes. Itās kind of a cartoon version of the story, but thatās why the burden of supporting public colleges shifted from state support to tuition, kids.
Totally fair and accurate. I had the enlightening experience of trying to explain some Higher Ed 101 stuff to some journo students recently. I ended up going back to the fact that state support is typically one of the biggest state-budget line items not considered untouchable. 1/?
