Abortion is also an economic and health care issue, both of which may take precedence over morality and politics when decisions are made. Lots of science involved (granted one of those is dismal).
It's worth making that point but my experience is that Republicans help keep their rural communities white and the patriarchy in place. A shitload of new bridges, farm payments, etc. from the Feds won't offset those core beliefs. Oldest son gets the farm don't you know.
