After a year of Bluesky and Mastodon I’m still of the opinion that this type of social media won’t work long term. Not talking financially (although that too), but the concept of feeds filled with semi random people where each post has no context to the next post.
Forums (yes, those again) work because you have a limited amount of users active, with generally the same interests, and you see them post all over the forum so you kinda get to know them. Moreso - people would talk about topics in topics - posts would be related to each other.
Yes! I agree with this take. I lamented on Mastodon that Twitter-style feeds already suck and it's a shame that Fedi more-or-less cloned it. Google Plus had an innovate way of displaying a feed with posts and circles that was very innovative, I wish it had copied that instead.
