the biggest problem with Transformers One actually is that Soundwave doesn't do much. He's my favorite.
I thought it was just some cameo thing for long time fans who read the comics when they first showed up.
Just tiny bits like that that could have used a bit more in this movie. Also the introduction of the alien race that made the funny Cybertron robot guys to hide underground and are the reason for everything was so rushed I had no idea what was going on.
"Whoa it's so scary you shot that one guy who was gonna kill us..." and then five minutes later he is Tony Hawk Proskating into the sky shooting 100 dudes in the face
One funny bit of Transformers One is there is a scene where D-16 shoots a guy for the first time and it shocks Orion Pax and the crew and is supposed to show that he's starting to slip into the big nasty Megatron we all know and love, but then the next scene Orion is sky surfing ripping guys in half
They're moments that just could have used even a little line here or there to explain why it just happened, but it's fine. I expected it to be that way for the whole movie, but it's just small bits and I was blown away that I actually cared even outside of being a lifelong fan of these funny guys.
There are maybe four or five moments where everything CONVENIENTLY just happened to be there at that exact place.
It is really good. I think the most surprising part of it is how it takes it's time to let things simmer and let characters breathe and moments to matter, which is rare for animated movies, especially animated movies made to sell toys. But it still has some clumsy parts that feel a bit rushed.
