2 Bramblings and 18 Redwings (including one singing briefly!) at Burrough Hill this morning were my first of the autumn, also 14 Chiffchaffs, and good numbers of Skylarks and Meadow Pipits passing over. #vc55birds
They used to come with a little capsule of rosin powder to maintain the friction between the pewter and the wood. You can buy it, but only in much bigger quantities than you'd ever need. Maybe try lightly sanding the inside of the wood to roughen it up a bit?
And it's still September! Amazing. I had a good go at Eyebrook plantation this morning, but none there, or if there were they weren't calling. Still plenty of time though - peak date in Leics is about 9th October I think?
Yes the majority of regular 'mothers' use one or both of those. Thanks for creating the feed - I'm sure it will be one of my most looked at, not that I've had my traps out recently due to the weather!
Can feeds be restricted to just hashtags? e.g. the moth one has picked up the word 'mother' in its usual sense, and a game that has the word moth in it. As Bluesky gets more popular this sort of thing might start to outnumber actual posts about moths.
I haven't been up there yet this autumn but will start going soon. As I've said before, considering it's not that well watched, it has form for producing good birds, e.g. Radde's, 2 YBWs, Richard's Pipit, Lap Bunt & Firecrest. Would be a good place for an RB Fly or a Bluetail!
New county record count of Great White Egret at Rutland Water over the weekend - 100+! Previous record was 65 I think in 2022. #vc55birds
Sadly not - decided against getting soaked yet again but picked the wrong day to stay at home! Dashed out there but it had already gone. A well deserved find for Tony though for being out in the right conditions. 👏
I thought all this rain would drop something good in at Eyebrook, and it did, although only for the finder, Tony Taylor - a juv Sabine's Gull at the island for about 10 minutes till it flew off SW. First in the county away from RW. Photos on LROS website: lros.org.uk/sightings-re...#vc55birds
