NO SHIT. I can't wait for the next installment, where we find out AI is EVEN MORE WASTEFUL than this story claims. There ARE some tasks that AI does well -- but none of them are "sexy", they won't get VCs throwing $$$ at them. Putting it to other uses is pointless and actively harmful.

And they claim if we keep feeding it then somehow it will evolve into something that knows how to solve ecological problems. Seems obvious to me that it would need to delete itself.

Reduce such consumption is important. However, when my daughter brought this up, I looked up how much water is used in the USA annually for data centers vs. landscaping. It’s not even close. Look it up yourself.
