HS2 going radically over budget isn't the fault of HS2 per se. The Tories wanted the tunnelling which blew the budget because it went through the chiterns. And then they sold out the North.

I think that this is a rather poor opinion piece focused on a financial framing that omits a lot of background (eg interest rates & Sunak’s urge for r tax cuts) and how the project ended up as a political football under the Tories. Too many omissions to call it in-depth reporting….
