The point of consoles was lower price than PCs and lack of constant patches and updates. They've evolved into single-use PCs that require massive downloads and patches (even for new games). www.techradar.com/gaming/ps5/a...
The PS5 Pro is good news for PC gaming - because it’s too gosh-darned expensive for a console
I think the author under estimates the appeal of something that just works, the kids can’t accidentally completely f up or install viruses on, and it’s still 500 less than the comparable system from the article? Also if you want cheap you don’t buy the pro…
I couldn’t get a PS5 two years ago, (the nearest for sale from my West London home was Bognor Regis.) so I stumped up any extra few hundred quid and bought an Omen PC. I am never going back to consoles again.
I feel like they've totally missed the USP of consoles. They just work. They're updated and (I assume) drivers and the tight ecosystem just work. Patches auto install when they're off. That's why I can't be arsed with PCs, the maintenance cost in time and energy is high. Also, gamepass is /good/.
Yeah, they are still less headache than a PC but you can see how arbitrary that is when you use something like a Steamdeck.
