I clicked your profile to look at your art again after reading this and saw you changed your banner and forgot how much I liked that halloween piece.
Like they could have just ignored it and just pretended the storyline of having him fake being trans for a mission never happened. Bury the character never to be seen again. And it never felt like retcons because the character development was so natural.
In fact Venture Bros. had such a good habit of going back to characters who were part of poorly aged gags and fleshing them out. Like having Hunter Gather's actually have tendencies towards being trans and not being fully comfortable with his gender.
It definitely helps him break the mold of sassy gay man stereotypes in that he isn't also a noodle armed wimp, but completely yoked and in the same league as Brock Samson. And that all the characters in Venture Bros. accept and don't care that other characters are gay or bi.
Also Shore Leave. He literally shows up just for "Haha shipwreck from GI Joe, but hes gay because hes a sailor." and "Hyper religious dudes who are obviously flamboyantly gay." jokes. But then he becomes a recurring character who is a treat despite just being the sassy gay man stereotype.
I love that Dr. Girlfriend starts as a one off joke (that aged badly) and becomes one of the most important characters in Venture Bros. to the point that the entire joke she was created for stops being brought up and both the cast and audience just accept she has a deep voice without caring.
The Ghost of Ronald Reagan possessing queer people would be a pretty good premise for a horror movie.
And if this short sightedness causes company to fail. Oh, well! Sell their stocks and invest in next company. Its not their jobs they ruined, so why should they care?
