In explaining her maternity leave comments Badenoch compares herself to Margaret Thatcher, saying her remarks have been misinterpreted, as she says Thatcher’s famous Woman’s Own 1987 interview about “no such thing as society” was.

Ah yes, because when in doubt, always channel the spirit of Thatcher. What’s next, comparing maternity leave to being a grocer? 🛒🤦‍♂️

I am no great fan of Thatcher, but at least she surrounded herself with people who would offer alternative opinions. Bad-Enoch & her pals just drink the Kool Aid & spout Tufton Street briefing material!

She said it - it was reported as she said it - not out of context , so if it actually IS out of context , then she needs to look at herself as she’s the author of the controversy.

But the first principle is that businesses should be given more freedom to exploit the workers. Old style Tory politics. Her unwillingness to answer the question, and deflecting it back to the questioner showed she is no Thatcher.

I actually can buy Badenoch’s explanation. She was talking about first principles about government intervention in the economy. But the truth is (a) she expressed it badly, wasn’t misinterpreted and (b) the corollary of what she was saying would lead you to saying that govt
