KSTP has three separate news stories up from just the past week about children being hit by drivers in the Twin Cities. This is the true cost of us refusing to actually fund traffic calming.

If I was riding a loop from 6th & Nicollet I’d probably do Nicollet to Groveland to Laselle/Blaisdell, then west on either 34th or 40th, then north on Bryant.
Blaisdell is a 2 way bikeway from 29th-40th. So when I’m southbound from downtown I usually take 1st to 26th to Blaisdell. Or the reverse if I’m northbound (although I’ve actually started going way out of my way to take Bryant northbound as I prefer it).
Depending on how much time you have my fav E/W route is 40th. It’s just a basic flex post protected 2 way bikeway but way more comfortable than 35th or 36th.
Oh that sounds so fun! 1st Ave S is closed between Lake and 26th currently due to construction (detour into Nicollet but you have to get kind of creative around Kmart site - not fun). So I’d opt for Blaisdell. 35th & 36th are similar safety wise. I usually take 34th St E/W for lower traffic.
A common argument against biking infrastructure is that no one uses it in the winter. I do walk/bike more often and for longer trips in the warmer months, but active transportation is very possible year-round in Minneapolis (and other places with winter weather)!
Walking and biking for transportation means movement is built into each day. I work remotely (from home), have a short 5 block commute to get my kids to/from school, and walk or bike for most errands. It all adds up over a year! 🧵
