I am horrified that the University of Kent is planning the closure of many excellent programmes, including Anthropology, and is proposing up to 58 redundancies among academic staff! This further destruction of UK centres of academic excellence is heartbreaking.

This is horrifying. Solidarity from a (British) prof of English at West Virginia University (where we're going through something very similar). I'm sorry. It's so stressful and so wrong.

The programmes identified for closure follow the recent trend of destroying humanities and social sciences. How much more damage will this government's myopic policies do?!

Is the lack of money at that uni caused by decreasing numbers of international students?

Social science and humanities are as important as science. Shocking news.

They closed English Language and Linguistics in the late 1990s; it's why my wife moved to Liverpool. History repeats itself.
