By legitimate reason I don't mean you specifically, but like the workplace vibe in general or a specific past experience. You should absolutely have a talk about it, there might be more important things to address than the choice of emoji.

I feel like this claim has been made about like every possible emoji. I think the problem to be examined is the people involved. Do they have legitimate reasons to assume such interpretation or is their brain being poisoned by some trash internet discourse they should probably disconnect from?

And obviously it's not even certain you can trust the legitimate services not to let that information leak and for that reason you can always refuse, but how many of us could afford to lose e.g. their main google account? I just don't like thinking about how badly cornered we are.

One thing I gotta note about the phishing attempts - it's fucked up that services will legitimately ask you for scans of your government-issued identification to confirm your identity, because people aren't as alarmed when phishers ask for the same thing.

The abusers are gone from my life, but the things they said are not easily removed from memory and will probably haunt me in moments of doubt, forever.
