I think there is a large difference between basing a set on folktales (which also happens to be the second set of cards ever) and basing a set on pop culture tie ins.
Same reason I don't like the cowboy shit or the gangland shit -- it feels cheap and kitschy, in a way the game never really did before then. I recognize the game was never high art or anything, but it always felt like they were aiming a bit higher than they are now.
A whole-ass Long War 2 campaign and I never once saw one of those! Had no idea they were there, extremely cool
At risk of getting Political, I would be very happy if this us election could remain the most important election of my lifetime for the remainder of my lifetime. It would be swell of the American people to deliver a full-throated rejection of fascism; like Christmas come early

Honestly, I don't think they'd work nearly as well if illustrators were involved. The disconnect between "stodgy government safety watchdog" and "absurd kitschy photoshop job" is what makes the account work, and I think a higher level of craft would detract from that. Just my opinion, though.
