I walked past a house with a birdcage in the window, and it made me smile. Then after I had a thought. Is it more cruel to see the freedom you'll never reach, or live never knowing that freedom exists?

That is very thought provoking. They say ignorance is bliss, but in this case it is rather cruel to withhold that info.
