If you follow me, you know what I’m about to say. A majority. That cannot agree. On a Speaker. Is functionally. Not. A majority.
The part that's most frustrating is that I'm sure if, say, 10 with a conscience went to the 200+ members of the other party and nominated someone who wasn't insane, we'd be done right now.
Yup. What we have are two minority parties and a bunch of independents who align with neither. Which places the Democrats in the plurality. WHY are we allowing the Republicans continue to control the gavel?
I wish they'd just schism and make it official already.
This majority is just three rabid rats in a trench coat.
that’s how the lead vote-getter in Poland is not going to lead Poland
Welcome to coalition governments, America.
They have effectively given us a three party system… which has been the writing on the wall… republicans, trumpers, and Dems… while maintaining the illusion that two of those parties are the same thing. Hijinks ensue.
Hahaha yup. @joshtpm.bsky.social has been beating that same drum
I appreciate this, such a useful reframe - US politics is so used to/built around those majorities, vs other countries' coalitions. Hard to see a coalition happening in our political system tho!
