One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of forms of regulation of recreational sex and birth control would/will be largely broken-taillight-type laws. By which I mean when you create a law you can’t possibly really enforce, it’s just a blanket power to selectively harass people you don’t like.
So they will enforce it on Black women mostly. Because they need one more bit of bs in a world that gives them too much bs already.
This is also key to why this stuff doesn’t alienate a lot of people on the right. The actual puritan true believers are only a part of their coalition, but the rest of them—including the frat bro misogynist types who very much support birth control—know that it’ll never be enforced against them.
sodomy laws were on the books less than 20 years ago, it's just that cops could only use them to attack "certain types of people"
We all know what "single-mother households" is a dogwhistle for
Indeed, a lot of those random "can't chew gum on Tuesdays" laws that occasionally make the news are post-Reconstruction era laws that were not meant to be enforced on all citizens, just people of color.
Antonin Scalia is in hell complaining that the GOP is biting from his Lawrence v. Texas dissent.
Puritans are monsters. Say no to cults & their sects! Amen!
It that why such laws are still on the books in various places?
That is a great thought I hadn't considered before now. Thank you.
