My step father also insisted to get an Irish Setter bc he loved how the breed looks... so we got one from the shelter (at least, not a breeder) and hands down, his hunting instinct was unmanageable, technically we should have never let him off leash bc the second he finds a trail he's GONE

I grew up with a pet lab because my dad wanted a hunting retrieval dog but he either didnt train her or she didn't take the training well enough to take hunting

The dog also was insanely hyperactive, and kinda coocoo, makes me think he was probably some type of inbred, which isn't uncommon for purebreds. After I think 5 years of ownership we gave him to a friend who seriously loved the dog and the breed and everyone was happy w that arrangement.
