Looking at the latest pics from the James Webb telescope and thinking about how thanks to technology we're now able to see EVEN MORE details in places we've already seen before with Hubble. And I wonder what else is out there that we can't see because our eyes and technology are still so limited.
That is incredible!
they can definitely see us I bet!
I wouldn't be me if I didn't get existential. And of course I'm looking at this stuff and wondering what parts of myself, my life, and life in general am I not currently capable of seeing that's been there all along because I just don't have the metaphorical technology to see it quite yet.
I learned some about animal vision, and the fact that many birds can see into the UV spectrum. Made me wonder what the world looks like to them, with all these "hidden" colors we can't even see! (And there are animals like cuttlefish and mantis shrimp that see even more wavelengths!)
Looking at things in different wavelengths of light turns out to be remarkably useful. You may be familiar with the Voynich manuscript & its weird content; it has recently been subjected to multispectral imaging to reveal more details within its pages: www.medievalists.net/2024/09/hidd...
Cutting-edge technology has just uncovered hidden secrets within one of the world’s most mysterious medieval texts. Multispectral imaging has revealed previously invisible details…
