Really late to this post but, it may well be that people just dont like having to think sbout people online as complex characters. People would rather have a bunch of cardboard cutouts to mock and torment. Its easier than having to adress that people are complicated.
I really shouldnt enjoy it but pissing of racists and homophobes on twitter is such an enjoyable activity
