A student in my Turkey course wrote an award-winning paper drawing numerous parallels between the crackdown on academic freedoms (and LGBTQ+ organizing) at BoÄaziçi University in Istanbul and the one at the Florida university where he went for undergrad. It can and is happening in the US.
