Studios be out here saying animation is too expensive when the main process has been putting wasteful people in charge and then use the outcome of that as to why we need to cut more corners or automate shit. I say this,working on another project where the showrunners recut/change minds at the end

Legit seeing the future retakes as I animate a scene that has a terrible cut, and the direction of the scene after doesn't make sense lol. I have no doubt if the board team has more time and less scope creep, the basics and pacing would get cleaner. cut corners lead to more problems downline

As someone who busts their ass to plan and prepare, if I came to an end of an animation project and did what I see so many shows do, I'd feel like I had let my team down as a director for wasting so many artists time and energy.

"We can't afford to animate in-house so let's outsource it to some foreign country while paying our executives a fuck ton and everybody else jack shit"

I think this is why storyboarding is so important to the animation process. It should theoretically make sure you catch any issues before animating anything. It really is like making and editing a rough cut before actually filming anything.

It's not too expensive. It just requires vision, accumulated wisdom, and calculated risk, and that's why tasteless robber-barons want nothing to do with it

Sometimes I get hired as an artist to concept "final assets" to build in cg and the script isn't even locked and I'm like. Hey why am I here lol. Then the sets I design get cut and I think "ah cool $1000s in the trash"

So many people think that animation is some process that requires millions of dollars but all you need is a team of good artists who know what they're doing and aren't treated like shit. It's just that the industry is incapable of doing the part where they don't treat everyone like shit.
