Can anyone help me with this lump of stone on an Orcadian beach. Are the marks man made?

I do wish museums would have ‘no photography’ days when you could enjoy an exhibition/gallery without being made to feel like you are in the way of all those who seem to have come to photograph the exhibits rather than look at them.
