Just incredible news on reviving Voyager I. Think of it: a computer chip 15 billion(!) miles away is broken. The solution is to repackage & move key software, w/ code sent via radio signal that takes 22+ hrs to reach that little 46yr old machine. AND IT IS WORKING. blogs.nasa.gov/voyager/2024...
Outstanding.
And I can’t even keep my Xbox connected to my WiFi 😕
I mean didn't NASA bring Apollo 13 back to Earth with popsicle sticks and dental floss?
Presumably they had some old hardware they tested the patch on. Then tested communication, and put the two together. Still amazing. I push firmware to devices through WiFi all the time but it’s in the same room.
< mind blown> 🤯 One tuff little robot. Long live Voyager 1.
If humanity ever disappears, I hope some other intelligence finds these messengers and understands that they are the song of our existence to the cosmos. If humanity ever disappears, I hope some other intelligence finds these messengers and understands that they are the song of our existence to the cosmos.
Lovely
As a man who works with relatively older machinery (20 years give or take in some cases) I am literally so impressed I had to stop and process how freaking brilliant this news is. Some people at NASA are due some praise and raises!
this is such a good news to hear. we should always strive to keep Voyager alive!
