The modular concept is quite cool. It allows the re-role of vessels and adapts to changing environments much more quickly than the usual procurement processes can keep up with. Presumably, a generic platform is cheaper to obtain as well.

Hopefully you can find something similar!

I've got a Samsung, but when I go to the Battery section of settings, I have an option for Background Usage Limits where I can select individual apps for sleep or deep sleep. Those in deep sleep won't reactivate until I next use them.

I suppose it's that sort of thing that keeps the standby vessels entertained. They could reasonably have told me that that particular rig wasn't on their chart, but that would have meant admitting they weren't doing their weekly chart updates properly so they went with "rounding error" instead 🤔

On my last trip, I had a Navigator on another ship send me a route they wanted us to follow. This person is more experienced and better qualified than little old me, so imagine how awkward I felt telling them we would not be going that way because driving through Oil Rigs is generally bad...

A photo of a route I was sent by another Navigator, plotted on ECDIS. It gets a bit close to two oil rigs - indicated by squares with red & yellow teardrops showing the lights -, before seemingly wanting me to drive right over the third. I could be forgiving and say that the third Oil Rig is a manual correction added from the weekly Rig List, but if that Navigator didn't see the Rig it means they weren't doing their weekly chart updates...
The route to follow is shown by a thin orange line because it wasn't active at the time I took this photo (if it had been the active route, it would be a thicker red line). Best practice is to pass oil rigs by as wide a margin as possible, outside of any exclusion zones in place, and ideally not less than 1nm.

I'm obsessed with this, because this is how my right eye looks in selfies. Can't seem to fix it, but I guess I don't need to #Art

The Docks now are a retail & recreation space but every now and again, a cargo ship makes it up to offload parts for a nearby power station. Apparently River Trader normally draws 3.9m, but in this video she's sitting around 2.6m [2/2] youtu.be/U3av4FRjc0k?...

I completely agree! I'm going to eat this chunk of coffee & walnut cake, and try not to think about all the things I still have to do.

All varieties of Navy fall under what I consider to be COLREGS Annex V: "If it's grey, keep out of its way". And it's not out of respect...
