Fun facts! Lichens are a symbioses of a fungus & an algae, where the fungus is the dominant partner. The fungus absorbs water and minerals for the algae to grow, and the algae produces food for the fungus 🍄🌿 There are 3 main lichen types: • foliose (leafy) • fruticose (shrubby) • crustose (crusty)

Also cute: 🪹 Birds use lichen to camouflage their nests. 🪨 Lichens can grow on many types of surfaces, including rocks, trees, metal, glass. They can even colonize sand dunes! 🐌 Lichens are a food source for deer, elk and caribou, but also many small invertebrates like springtails and snails :)
