I don't have much more to say, but I think white union members have traditionally been fairly right-wing and many opposed including non-white or female members. But also, in regard to status anxiety, the election of Obama was a kind of psychic blow with a Black man elevated to highest office.
Depends on age. I am old enough to remember white union anger at anti Vietnam war protests.
They were pro-Reagan. Very popular president.
My kid was at JFK with other protesters shortly after Muslim ban announced. I fear what Trump 2nd admin would do to similar protests. I truly fear military assault on peaceful protests
I'm not the ideal person to respond, but I'd say it's the rhetoric that's different. Gives people permission to be openly racist, sexist, and violently anti-immigrant.
And she held up with strength, but didn't lose her temper, stayed respectful and upbeat even when being treated extremely disrespectfully.
And now with more people there's more to scroll through. Plus, no ads. And diversity of opinion means range and substance, new facets of knowledge and insight--not people screaming the same things at each other.
The real injustice is that a working parent cannot deduct the cost of childcare as a business expense. Especially hard for self-employed filing schedule C. Dems should advocate for this.
